CONCRETE MAGAZINES
MALOELAP
(1) Vertical view of concrete magazine shown at right. Note square, solid shape.

(2) Oblique view of concrete magazine showing slit windows and paint and sod camouflage.

SAIPAN
(3) 4 concrete magazines are ranged in linear pattern along roadway. Note the square, solid appearance. These are similar in every detail to magazines present on Tenian, Wotje and Maloelap. The similar concrete structure at the lower end of the group has a small subsidiary structure directly adjacent to it. This building houses a power plant and the smaller, subsidiary building is for fuel. The others have a rectangular open structure nearby. The function of this is not known. The small, heavily revetted shed at the top of the stereo is a storage unit for ammunition or highly inflammable material described also in this study. Other buildings are workshops and barracks.

(4) Same view as left, larger scale.
