Transparencies

The following pages come from transparencies that are located at the end of the Submarine Periscope manual, but that are not in its index.

The periscope is the eye of the submarine. It is provided with a suitable altiscope mechanism for observing the surface of the sea and the sky above while the submarine remains submerged. In addition, it is equipped with a built-in stadimeter for estimating the range and course angle of the target. * The operational effectiveness and the security of the submarine depend, in great part, upon the condition of the periscope. For this reason, the structural details and functional relationship of its more complicated mechanisms must be thoroughly understood and pictured by the optical repairman charged with its maintenance. * With these facts in mind, the following special presentation has been prepared.
