STORAGE PITS
BURMA
(1) Square storage pits laid out to take advantage of vegetation. However, light-toned spoil from the pits and the square outline reveal the installation. This is probably an ammunition or fuel depot.

(2) Storage trenches laid out with some attempt to follow natural ground pattern. The spoil from the elongate, irregular trenches is thrown up on the edges to give added protection. However, this tact only makes identification of the installation easier. This is probably a dump of fuel or explosive stores.

MAGWE Elsewhere dumps have frequently been found as an integral part of aerodrome installations but near Magwe two small dumps, consisting of a series of irregularly disposed narrow trenches probably for POL stores, are situated too far from the aerodrome and its satellites to be directly connected and are illustrated here. The spoil from the excavations, thrown up around them, helps reveal the existence of the dumps.

DAGUA Storage Pits and Fuel drums in Crater. The latter may be 'empties' rolled in the crater for disposal. The four rectangular pits, however, are for 'live' fuel storage. Spoil from the excavation gives added protection to the supplies but is an aid to identification from above.
