OIL STORAGE - BULK
NAURU
(1) A battery of 6 oil tanks associated with the phosphate plant. These are partially buried.Such oil storage is usually easily identified from the air.

(2) Showing that the oil tanks viewed in above stereo are sunk somewhat in the ground for protection. The only camouflage is distortion painting.

(3) Oblique view of 4 oil tanks two of which have been destroyed. Such storage units offer no problem of identification.

(4) 8 oil tanks are visible. Two, in the battery of six in the foreground, have been camouflaged with sod. The other four and one at the base of the hill have distortion paint camouflage. The remaining one, up the hill, is hidden by vegetation.

(5) A battery of three tanks near sheds for narrow gauge railroad servicing phosphate mining activity. Though there is no attempt to hide these in this instance, later photographs showed quite an effective type of blend painting. Normally, unburied fuel tanks offer no problem of identification.
